The first group of Chinese immigrants came to Samoa in the late 1800s. Over time, more Chinese arrived, either as settlers or workers. They embraced Samoan culture, learned the Fa'asamoa, married locals, formed Samoan families and passed away in Samoa. Their significant influence can still be seen in Samoan culture and its people today.

However, the most recent Chinese migrants have caused concern among locals. They are taking jobs and businesses meant for Samoans, bypassing regulations, and draining money from the local economy. The documentary "Dragons In Paradise" explores the history of Chinese in Samoa and the possible impacts of the latest wave of Chinese immigrants entering the Pacific region.
